The globe spins, a country lights up, you say the name into the mic. There are 35 sovereign states across the Americas, and the Caribbean alone holds thirteen of them, from Antigua and Barbuda to Trinidad and Tobago. Central America is a tight chain of seven: Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama. South America stretches from Colombia to Chile with the two Guianas in between. Suriname and Guyana are usually the first ones people forget out loud.

Drill the Central American chain
Going north to south: Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama. Belize is the only English-speaking one and the only former British colony. Saying the seven in order out loud is the fastest way to stop hesitating when one of them is highlighted.
Don't skip the small Caribbean states
Saint Kitts and Nevis is the smallest sovereign state in the Americas by both area and population. Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Saint Lucia and Grenada are easy to mix up by location. The globe zooms in on the highlighted island, so trust the visual cue before you guess.
Compound names are one answer
Trinidad and Tobago, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Antigua and Barbuda are each a single country with one capital. Say the full official name; partial answers like just Trinidad or just Antigua may not register depending on the recogniser.
Bolivia and Paraguay are landlocked
These are the only two landlocked countries in South America, sitting in the middle of the continent. Bolivia has two capitals (Sucre constitutional, La Paz seat of government), but in this mode you only say the country name, which keeps the answer simple.
Frequently asked questions
Is the United States accepted in several forms?
Yes. USA, US, United States and United States of America are all valid. The browser recogniser sometimes hears USA as three letters and sometimes as a word, so any of these should land. Pick the form that comes naturally and stick with it.
Are dependencies like Puerto Rico included?
No. The mode quizzes sovereign states only. Puerto Rico, Greenland, French Guiana, Bermuda and the Falklands are not in rotation. French Guiana belongs to France and is shown as part of it; Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark.
How does the engine handle Spanish or Portuguese names?
On the English version it expects English names. Brazil rather than Brasil, Mexico rather than México, Cuba either way since it is identical. Switching to a Spanish or Portuguese version of the site changes the expected language for the recogniser.
Which country is hardest to recognise by voice?
Guyana and Guinea sound similar enough that the engine sometimes confuses them, but the globe shows you which continent is highlighted, so context disambiguates. Pronounce Guyana as guy-AH-nah with a clear final vowel to avoid the conflict.
