The globe ticks through one European country at a time and you say its name out loud before the next station. Around 45 answers wait for you, including the easy-on-the-tongue ones like France, Germany, Italy and Spain, and the small states that cluster in the Alps and the Mediterranean: Monaco, Andorra, San Marino, Liechtenstein, Vatican City and Malta. The Balkans alone account for nine separate countries, each with its own flag and capital.

Run the Balkans in one go
Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Albania, plus Bulgaria and Romania to the east. Saying the chain top to bottom out loud, even once, makes the names feel less interchangeable when the globe lands on one of them.
The three Baltics, the three micro-states
Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania run north to south along the Baltic. Liechtenstein, Andorra, San Marino are landlocked Alpine or Pyrenean micro-states. Monaco and Vatican City are even smaller. Each is a separate answer; size does not affect what the engine listens for.
North Macedonia, Czech Republic, Türkiye
North Macedonia changed its name from Macedonia in 2019. Czech Republic is also accepted as Czechia, the short form adopted in 2016. Turkey requested international use of Türkiye in 2022; on this site the English Turkey is what the recogniser expects.
Mind the Caucasus boundary
Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan straddle the conventional Europe-Asia line. In GeoQuizz the three of them sit in the Asia rotation, not Europe. Russia is the opposite case: classified as European because Moscow and most of its population are west of the Urals.
Frequently asked questions
Is the United Kingdom one answer or four?
One answer. UK and United Kingdom both register. England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are nations of the UK but not sovereign states, so they are not separate answers. Ireland, the republic, is its own answer with Dublin as capital.
Why does the quiz include Vatican City?
It is the smallest sovereign state in the world by area and population, fully recognised by the United Nations as a permanent observer. The globe zooms in tightly when it is highlighted because the territory is only 0.49 square kilometres.
How does voice handle accented names?
Say them as English speakers usually do. Liechtenstein is fine without the German throat sound, Czech as chek, Türkiye as the English Turkey. The engine matches against the English label, not the native pronunciation, which is more forgiving for non-native speakers.
Are Belarus and Ukraine both included?
Yes, both are sovereign states and appear in the European rotation. Belarus has Minsk as its capital, Ukraine has Kyiv. The English site uses the spelling Kyiv rather than the older Russian transliteration Kiev, but the recogniser accepts both forms.
