Recall names by region
Try groups you already know: North Africa, West Africa, the Horn of Africa and Southern Africa. You control the answer order, so a familiar group can help you remember the next name without waiting for a prompt.
Keep the two Congos separate
Republic of the Congo and Democratic Republic of the Congo are different entries. Côte d’Ivoire and Ivory Coast are accepted names for the same entry. Use the complete name when similar names are difficult to distinguish.
Include the island countries
Madagascar, Seychelles, Comoros, Cape Verde and São Tomé and Príncipe are in the full Africa pool. Include them in your practice list rather than stopping once you have recalled the mainland names.
Switch input when needed
Background noise can affect browser speech recognition. Say one country name at a time and check the transcript. If you prefer to play quietly or voice recognition misses the name, type it with the keyboard.
Frequently asked questions
Are South Sudan and Sudan both included?
Yes. South Sudan and Sudan are separate entries in the full Africa pool. Enter each country name separately; naming one does not count as finding the other.
What about disputed territories like Western Sahara?
Western Sahara and Somaliland are included in the full Africa selection of 55 countries and territories. This describes the game dataset, not a list of UN member states or a position on sovereignty. The short starter round uses only a subset of that selection.
How does the short Africa game work?
You have 120 seconds to name 15 selected countries. Choose the answer order and use the keyboard or voice. The grid shows the full pool, so a name listed there may belong to the full game without being in the short starter selection.
Do I need to know every island state?
The full Africa selection includes five island countries: Madagascar, Seychelles, Comoros, Cape Verde and São Tomé and Príncipe. Mauritius is absent from the current playable dataset, so it is not a target in this quiz. Practise the five included islands alongside the mainland countries and territories.
Can I play without a microphone or speech recognition?
Yes, the microphone is optional: classic mode supports the keyboard or voice. Voice needs speech recognition in your browser and microphone permission; availability depends on the browser and device. If speech recognition is unavailable or permission is denied, continue the same game with the keyboard, without changing modes.
