The yellow-blue-red trio
Colombia, Venezuela and Ecuador all fly horizontal yellow, blue and red bands inherited from Gran Colombia. Venezuela adds eight white stars on the blue, Ecuador adds the national coat of arms with a condor, Colombia keeps the field clean. The presence and content of the central emblem decides the answer.
Andean coats of arms
Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador all centre an elaborate coat of arms. Peru pairs its red bands around a white centre with the vicuña, cinchona tree and cornucopia. Bolivia sets ten stars under Mount Potosí, one for each historic department plus the lost Litoral. Memorising one symbol per country avoids long stares at the centre of the flag.
Caribbean signals
Jamaica is the only national flag in the world without red, white or blue, using black, gold and green only. Cuba and Puerto Rico share an inverted colour scheme of stripes and a triangle, and the Dominican Republic is the only flag in the world with the Bible visible on its coat of arms.

Brazil's blue celestial sphere shows the sky over Rio de Janeiro on the morning of 15 November 1889. Argentina, Uruguay and Peru carry suns. Chile's lone star sits in a blue canton over white and red, the layout that often gets confused with the Texas state flag. Star count and arrangement are reliable tiebreakers.

Which flag in the Americas is the oldest?
The current Argentine flag, designed by Manuel Belgrano in 1812, is among the oldest in continuous use in the Americas. The Sun of May was added in 1818. The United States flag dates from 1777 in its first thirteen-star version, and has been amended each time a new state joined the union.
Why is Paraguay's flag special?
Paraguay is the only sovereign country in the world with a flag that shows different emblems on each side. The obverse displays the national coat of arms with the Star of May, the reverse displays the seal of the treasury with a lion. Most reference photos show the obverse only.
Are Texas and Chile flags really that similar?
They share the same elements: a single white star inside a blue canton on the hoist side, with a red and white horizontal field. Chile's blue canton sits only over the white band, while Texas extends the blue down the full height. The proportions also differ. Once you notice the canton size, the confusion fades.
Does the quiz include dependent territories?
The default list covers the 35 sovereign states recognised by the United Nations. Puerto Rico, Greenland, French Guiana and the Caribbean dependencies can be enabled separately in the game settings if you want a longer pool with more visually similar designs to sort through.
