Play nowAsia is the largest continent both by land area and by population, and it contains roughly fifty sovereign states depending on how the borders of Eurasia are counted. The five Central Asian republics — Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan — were created in 1991 after the Soviet Union dissolved, which is why even atlases printed before that year do not show them. Other countries on the list are far older: Iran, China, and India have continuous historical identities measured in millennia. This quiz highlights one country at a time on the 3D globe and asks you to pick its name from a short list. The list is shuffled each round, so you have to recognise the highlighted shape rather than memorise an answer position.

Learn the five 'stans'
Kazakhstan is the largest and sits to the north. Below it, from east to west, you have Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. Mentally drawing that group as a single block makes Central Asia much faster to identify.
Southeast Asia by water
Mainland Southeast Asia: Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam. Maritime Southeast Asia: Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Philippines, East Timor. The split between mainland and islands cuts the region cleanly in half.
Three Caucasus countries
Georgia sits on the Black Sea, Azerbaijan on the Caspian, Armenia between the two and slightly south. Most quizzes expose how many people confuse the three — sorting them once tends to fix the issue permanently.
Watch for the small Gulf states
Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, the UAE — all four crowd the same stretch of the Persian Gulf. The highlighter helps, but you should still learn their relative positions: Kuwait at the north, Bahrain offshore, Qatar on a peninsula, the UAE wrapping around to Oman.
Frequently asked questions
Is Russia in this region?
Russia spans both continents but the quiz classifies it under Europe, because Moscow and most of the population sit west of the Urals. It does not appear in the Asia regional pool, only in the Europe rotation and once in the World mode.
What about Taiwan?
Taiwan is included as a separate entry. The quiz uses geographic and de-facto boundaries rather than UN-only membership, which is the most useful approach for a learning tool. If you prefer UN-only lists, several entries will look incomplete.
How do you handle Palestine and Israel?
Both appear as separate entries on the list. The 3D globe shows them with their commonly mapped boundaries, which is the simplest way to make the quiz teachable without taking a political position.
Which Asian countries trip people up the most?
In our rotation logs, the most-missed countries are Bhutan, Brunei, East Timor, and the Caucasus trio. Bhutan is small and tucked between India and China; Brunei sits inside Malaysian Borneo; East Timor is often confused with Indonesia.
